Lianorm Telegraph #57 @23-01-2011

The Mayor has been busy

23-01-2011@Lianorm – by Azira – We all thought she was sulking about her missing bio, but it turns out that we were wrong! Mayor Alyxa’s strange absence from the streets of Lianorm the last couple of weeks can be explained by her fervent work on a new holosite dedicated to Lianorm. Alyxa explained, “I thought it was time we had a nice holosite which we can use to archive all the nice things we do here in Lianorm. It will contain copies of all future city announcements, help guides for new, existing and potential citizens and, of course, the Lianorm Telegraph archive!” If you haven’t taken a look at the site yet, head on over to https://lianorm.wordpress.com. I think you’ll agree that Mayor Alyxa has done a great job!

And win! For the win!

23-01-2011@Lianorm – by Azira – Last Wednesday a troop of NEI combatants, mostly consisting of residents of Lianorm, entered the Death Watch once again after a long absence from its hallowed halls. Lianorm has a long tradition of Mando-making so success was guaranteed. The group later emerged from the bunker victorious, with a new schematic for a Mandalorian Chest piece in the hand of resident crafter Arcanefire. During the run the group also took on the Overlord who, upon seeing the terror the group was raging in the bunker, dropped his jetpack stabiliser and hurried to the nearest exit. Hurst picked up the stabliser and kindly handed it to Azira, who was happy to have finally replaced the stabiliser she pinched from the Synergy Hall more than a year ago.

Elusia says “Do you know…”
– That it’s almost time for the annual Ewok invasion again?
– That the Mayor recommends that you tape your letterboxes shut for the duration?
– That -Wolf has an inherent phobia of Ewoks with wings?
– That he runs away and cowers in his room until the beast has passed?
– That some people like to use this to their advantage?

But these two cases could only be cured by a trip to the cloner

23-01-2011@Lianorm – by Alyxa – Recently, while working for the Singing Mountain Clan on Dathomir, I picked up an errand from the strange witch Rubina which involved fetching some data canisters from an old abandoned temple in a remote part of the planet. “No problem,” I thought, and made my way out across the plains, with my trusty pet Swamp Stalker, Bubastis, in the passenger seat of my AV-21. When Bubacat and I arrived we found that the temple was not as abandoned as we’d been led to believe. It was occupied by the so-called Blue People, only they were not people, but a Kwi-like organism. Fortunately, these ‘people’ proved to be an easy lunch for Bubastis, and we soon found ourselves near the bottom of the cave, where we found a very fierce Blue Person. We ran for our lives.
Being only a trader with a meagre RSF issue side-arm for protection, I pulled out my commlink and sent out a request for assistance on the NEI general comms channel. Bialar duly responded and headed out to my location. We fought our way back down to the bottom of the temple and took out the angry Blue Person. Just as I was about to lay my furry fingers upon the data canister I was sent to retrieve, a huge whuffa worm slithered out from a crack in the wall. Bubastis leapt into action, defending me heroically while Bialar aimed his lava cannon at the beast and opened fire.  However, the situation became untenable as Bialar had low defence-vs-bosses that day. Before we knew what happened, we both found ourselves blinking the bacta fluid out of our eyes as we climbed out of Lianorm’s cloning tubes. I suppose that is one way to cure an outbreak of worms!

-Wolf FreeLoader’s column examines an aspect of combat, defence or the gaming system in each issue. This week, -Wolf gives us an insight into the use of pistols.

Pistols fire the fastest of all weapons. This means that any buff based on or initiated by ‘proccing’ will have a much greater chance of firing. The Officer’s General’s set jewellery is a good example of this, providing a 20% chance to fire the Inspired Action buff which restores some action to all members of the group the officer is in.
Unfortunately, pistols also have a much lower damage per shot ratio than other weapons. This means that a player stacking block can mitigate a great deal, if not all of the pistoleer’s damage. The only thing you can do against this is to stack pistol damage and critical hit chance mods, and spam your specials.
Special attacks get a percentage boost to their multiplication of base damage for pistols, so while the base DPS on pistols is usually much lower due to the aforementioned blocking etc., special attack spike damage is always much higher!

If you have a problem, send a mail to Dr. Iaklub. He has the solution!

Dear Dr. Iak
How can I get a house in the centre of town? My speeder is on its last legs and I don’t think I can cope with walking a few hundred meters from the shuttle to my home.
Yours hopefully, Bard’ika

Dear Bard’ika
Well first and foremost Bard, you need to walk or you will get fat. But if you really do need to move then you should to talk to Anish as she has a home not far from the centre and often takes in guests. But be warned – as payment she may want you to act as a human footstool while having a ballgag inserted (she doesn’t like noisy furniture) and may treat you like a pony as well.
Failing this I am sure that Mayor Alyxa could be a more amicable method of securing your move as she will only expect a hefty bribe as long as you don’t disturb her illegal mining operation.
Your choice depends on what matters most to you: your health, your dignity or your wallet. Good luck!

23-01-2011@Lianorm – by Hurst – Good Day to you all in Lianorm. These past 2 weeks have flown by so fast, that I don’t even know where to start. As I try to reflect back, only one thing stands out. Our own Mayor Alyxa caught the biggest fish for the city during the competition week of January 10th. In a candid interview, she was excited, stating, “It’s the first fish I have caught that is over 1 meter long.” It was, in fact, 1.033 Meters. With that fish, our mayor led Lianorm into first place that week, along with Kadrette, Iv’va and Kadnance. Also with Lianorm, N.E.I. took 1st place as well. Great Job to everyone.
In the individual leader boards, I came in 2nd, Iv’va in 7th and Kadrette in 10th. Iv’va was able to angle in a few large fish just minutes prior to the deadline, strengthening our first place position for both city and guild.
This past week has been ruthless and unpredictable. I was able to catch the largest fish to date on Eclipse, in the early hours of the competition, but it was bitter sweet as both Lianorm and N.E.I. barely hung onto 2nd place. It seemed to be a struggle this week as ‘Storm Haven’ blew the competition away with a total of 22.66. The largest score I believe I have seen to date.
As you all know, I have been trying different techniques to increase my chances to catch the “Big One” or at least get into 1st place. These past few weeks I have been fishing in one spot the entire time. Talus has been my planet of choice. The Fish Potential Energy is at 1000 and I don’t have to worry about the planet specific fish. The fish Density is at a high of 5-Stars with no Vegetation. I will continue to camp out here until the quality goes away. Join me, just south along the river from Nashal, Talus.

Kadrette has also allowed me access into his favorite fishing spots, so look for those reviews in the next Telegraph.

Fear not Lianorm. There are plenty of fish in the seas! Just beware of the Gooberfish.

Azira interviews a long standing citizen: Iv’va Problem!

*Iv’va, you and your family are long standing citizens of Lianorm. Tell me, how long have you lived here and how did you come to settle here?
Well Azira I have lived in Lainorm for a year and a half now and I have slowly persuaded my extended family to move here during that time. I came to live in Lianorm due to the words of advice from my guardian Shorit. He has lived on many planets since his escape from Imperial slavery on his home planet of Kashyyyk. One of his homes was a city just over the river to the west of Lianorm where he had many happy memories.

*You are currently serving as Deputy Mayor. How did you get the position and what is the job like? Do you enjoy your role as part of Lianorm’s government?
It is an honour to be part of the government here in Lianorm and I have enjoyed my time in this role. Don’t get me wrong – it has its challenges – but it is nice to help people were possible.
As to how I came to be in this position is a good question. I was out skirting the boundaries of the city checking for any problems or trouble, when I got a comm message from the mayor that she needed to see me in her office. I made my way straight there, thinking over events to see what I may of done wrong. When I got there she told me I’d done nothing wrong and that she had an offer for me. As she was going on a forced trip for a few weeks she asked me to help Wolf out while she was away.

*Do you like living on Naboo? Or would you ideally like to make your home on another planet?
I’m very happy on Naboo as there is limited sand so it doesn’t get everywhere, and the rain fall is not too heavy. It also has great trade links to many of the other planets.

*What are your thoughts about the Galactic Civil War that’s raging in the galaxy?
I’d prefer not to answer this question but I will say, too many innocent people have died already.

*Do you get involved with the wider Eclipse community much? If so, what do you think of them?
Like every community there are some great people and there are a small amount of people that should not be allowed out on their own. You soon learn who they are so you can leave them be.

*You’ve also been in NEI a long time haven’t you? Do you still enjoy being in the guild?
The guild has had some ups and downs in the time I’ve been in it. But it always bounces back and gets stronger. Everyone in the guild is a unique character but somehow we all manage to get on and help each other as much as possible.

*What are your favourite hobbies and activities to do in-game?
I enjoy doing the odd bit of fishing when I get some spare time, or going out to hunt some of the creatures the galaxy has kindly created.

*Lastly, do you have any tips for other veterans for maintaining interest in the game?
The only advice I can give is to do the things you like, try the new activities when they come out and try to help newer players out, as this can be rewarding.

*Thank you for this interview. I hope you continue to enjoy living in Lianorm for a long time to come!

Fishing Leaderboard Results 2011: Week 3

Dear Citizens

I’m happy to report that Lianorm has reached the top three on the fishing leaderboards again this week (what a reputation we must be getting!)

I’m amazed with the lead Storm Haven has over us though: 22.66m! I think that’s the highest I’ve ever seen. I think that’s a challenge ladies and gents. Let’s see if we can do better!

Thank you all once again for your fishing efforts.

Best regards,

Mayor Alyxa
